Microbial Genetics

Although microbes perform most nitrogen and carbon transformations (something our lab focuses on a great deal), the connection between microbial genetics and ecosystem function is still in its infancy. We use genetic tools to understand the microbial underpinnings of biogeochemical cycling. Our group works on connecting microbial genetics with that of carbon use efficiency and nitrogen fixation, as well as elucidating the relationship between genetic markers, isotopic signatures and denitrification rates.
